Project Description
Abbey Leisure Centre
The project was for the full refurbishment of the existing leisure centre, as part of the refurbishment the existing facilities were to be transformed to offer to local residents a facility that they will be able to use for years to come and provides facilities for all ages.
On the ground floor the existing sports hall was transformed into a family entertainment area with soft play, trampolining zone and Tag Active activities. The family entertainment area is supported by a new café and party rooms. The changing facilities and sauna were refurbished with the centre retaining one of their squash courts with the other transformed into a wellbeing suite.
The first floor houses the “fitness areas” where the gym was relocated and increased in size and the existing gym was converted to a group exercise studio and a second studio introduced.
Prior to commencement of the refurbishment and transformation works the council had implemented the decarbonisation of the existing heating and hot water services plant and equipment following a successful Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) application, the Clients brief and project requirement was to maximise these works within the works undertaken as part of the refurbishment and transformation.
CGP MEP reutilised, where possible and suitable for the new areas, all services provided as part of the PSDS works and supplemented the installation with VRF systems, high efficiency ventilation provision, LED lighting throughout, intelligent controls system.
The MEP design had to follow the clients desire for an energy efficient, low carbon, facility, which we achieved.
